Cu cinci asezari componente si cu o suprafata de 53,89 km2, comuna Babeni se intinde la contactul a trei mari unitati de relief reprezentative: Culoarul Somesului, Dealurile Simisna -Garbou si Podisul Purcaret - Boiu Mare - Jugastreni.
Comuna Babeni are in componenta urmatoarele localitati: Babeni, sat resedinta de comuna situat la 44 km fata de municipiul Zalau, Ciocmani, Clit, Pirosa si Poienita.
Din punct de vedere al vechimii atestarii documentare, localitatea Babeni apare pentru prima data mentionata in documente din anul 1377 sub denumirea de Baba. Celelalte asezari sunt mentionate mai tarziu : Ciocmani (1461) - sub denumirea de Chokman, Clit (1554) - sub denumirea de Kylych, Pirosa (1603) - sub denumirea de Pirosfalva si Poienita (1543) - sub denumirea de Poynycza
La recensamantul din anul 2002, populatia comunei numara 2063 de locuitori. Din punct de vedere etnic, populatia are urmatoarea structura: 98,25% romani, 0,20 % maghiari si 1,55% rromi.
In economia comunei, agricultura este ramura economica predominanta. Depozitele grosiere de pietrisuri si nisipuri din lunca Somesului au permis dezvoltarea exploatarii acestora in balastiere.
Fondul turistic al comunei este alcatuit din elemente de mare valoare. Rezervatia peisagistica de interes national Stana Clitului si Valea Somesului sunt principalele elemente de atractie ale comunei, la care se adauga obiectivele de natura antropica cum sunt: biserica de lemn "Sfintii Arhangheli" din Pirosa, datata din secolul al XVIII-lea si biserica de lemn cu acelasi nume din Poienita, datata din secolul al XVIII-lea si pictata in anul 1863.
The commune has five component villages, its surface is 53,89 square kms and it is situated at the contact of three great features of the terrain: the Somes Couloir, the Simisna - Garbou Hills and the Purcaret - Boiu Mare - Jugastreni Plateau.
It consists of the following villages: Babeni - the central village of the commune situated at 44 kms distance from Zalau city, Ciocmani, Clit, Pirosa and Poienita.
Babeni was first attested documentary in 1377, when the settlement was denominated Baba. The other villages were mentioned later: Ciocmani in 1461 (Chokman), Clit in 1554 (Kylych), Pirosa in 1603 (Pirosfalva) and Poienita in 1543 (Poynycza).
The population of the commune according to the last census in 2002 counts 2063 inhabitants, of which 98,25% are Romanians, 0,20% are Hungarians and 1,55% are Roms.
The commune has a prevalent agricultural economy. The Somes Valley's deposits of gravel and sand are used for paving the railway.
The natural reservation of national importance and the Somes Valley are the most attractive sights of the commune. The wooden church "Sfintii Arhangheli" in Pirosa built in the 18th century and the wooden church with the same name in Poienita dated from the 18th century and pictated in 1863 are the most beautiful architectural monuments of the commune.
A kozseghez ot telepules tartozik, felulete 53,89 km2, es harom jelentos domborzati forma (a Szamos volgye, a Csakigorboi dombsag es a Bunyi fennsik) talalkozasanal fekszik. A kovetkezo falvakbol all: Aranymezo (Babeni), a kozseg szekhelye, 44 km-re talalhato Zilahtol, Csokmany (Ciocmani), Csurfalva (Clit), Pirosd (Pirosa) es Kismezo (Poienita).
A kozsegkozpont elso irasos emlitese 1377-bol szarmazik, ekkor Baba neven szerepel. A tobbi telepules csak kesobb jelenik meg okiratokban, Csokmany 1461-ben Chokman neven, Csurfalva 1554-ben Kylych neven, Pirosd 1603-ban Pirosfalva neven es vegul Kismezo 1543-ban, Poynycza neven.
A 2002-es nepszamlalasi adatok szerint a kozseg lakossaga 2063 fo, ennek nemzetisegi megoszlasa a kovetkezo: 98,25% roman, 0,20% magyar es 1,55% roma.
A kozseg gazdasaga elsosorban mezogazdasagi jellegu. A Szamos volgyeben felhalmozodott kavics- es homoklerakodasokat ma a vasut burkolasara hasznaljak.
A csurfalvi termeszetvedelmi terulet es a Szamos volgye, valamint a pirosdi es a kismezoi fatemplomok a kozseg fo latvanyossagai. Mindket templom a XVIII. szazadban epult, az utobbit 1863-ban festettek.
