Comuna Criseni, cu un teritoriu aferent de 32,77 km2, este amplasata la contactul Depresiunii Zalaului cu Depresiunea Salajului.
Comuna este alcatuita din 3 sate: Criseni - sat resedinta de comuna situat la o distanta de 9 km fata de municipiul Zalau, Cristur - Criseni si Garceiu.
Localitatea Criseni a fost mentionata pentru prima data in anul 1387 sub denumirea de Tothaza. Satul Cristur - Criseni apare mentionat in anul 1378 sub denumirea de Kereztur iar Garceiu a fost amintit ceva mai tarziu, respectiv in anul 1405 sub denumirea de Gercsen.
Populatia comunei numara la ultimul recensamant 2443 locuitori, structurata din punct de vedere etnic dupa cum urmeaza: 63,81% romani, 32,13% maghiari si 4,06 % rromi.
Economia comunei este una bazata pe servicii, pe activitati de mica productie artizanals, comert, agricultura si nu in ultimul rand, pe turism.
Localitatea Criseni este foarte atractiva din punct de vedere turistic. Aici, in timpul verilor, Strandul si baza sportiva adiacenta reprezinta locul ideal pentru petrecerea timpului liber.
Un alt obiectiv turistic care nu trebuie ocolit este biserica reformata, monument istoric si de arhitectura, din localitatea Cristur - Criseni ( sec. XVI).
Criseni commune has a 32,77 square kms surface and it is placed at the contact between the Zalau Basin and the Salaj Basin.
The commune has three component villages: Criseni, the central village situated at 9 kms distance from Zalau city, Cristur-Criseni and Garceiu.
Criseni village was first mentioned in 1387 under the name Tothaza. Cristur-Criseni was attested in 1378 when its name was Kereztur and Garceiu's first mention is from the year 1405 under the name Gercsen.
The population of the commune counts, according to the last census, 2443 inhabitants, of which 63,81% are Romanians, 32,13% are Hungarians and 4,06% are Roms.
The economy of the commune is based on services, on small production of local handicrafts, on trade, on agriculture and last but not least on tourism.
Criseni is a very attractive locality in the respect of tourism. In summer its swimming pool is a perfect place for spending someone's spare time. Another touristic spectacle is the reformed church in Cristuru-Criseni, historical and architectural monument from the 16th century.
A 32,77 km2-en elterulo kozseg a Zilahi medence es a Szilagy medence talalkozasanal fekszik. Harom falu tartozik hozza: Ciganyi (Criseni) - a kozsegkozpont, 9 km-re Zilahtol, Szilagyfokeresztur (Cristur-Criseni) es Szilagygorcson (Garceiu).

Turisztikai latvanyossaga a szilagyfokereszturi reformatus templom, amely a XVI. szazadban epult. Kulonlegesek temetojenek csonakos fejfai. Gorcsonben a Wesselenyi csalad egyik kastelya allott, az utobbi evtizedekben szetromboltak.
