Comuna Rus se afla situata in partea de est a judetului Salaj, ocupand o suprafata de 60 km2 in zona Dealurilor Simisna -Garbou si in zona de culoar a Somesului. Comuna are in componenta trei sate: Rus - sat resedinta de comuna situat la o distanta de 72 km fata de municipiul Zalau, Buzas si Fantanele-Rus.
Cele mai inaintate date privind atestarea documentara a localitatilor comunei sunt semnalate pentru Rus in anul 1325 si pentru Buzas in anul 1554.
Anul atestarii documentare pentru satul Fantanele-Rus nu este cunoscut pana in prezent.
Populatia comunei numara la ultimul recensamant 1220 de locuitori. Structura etnica a populatiei, in urma aceluiasi recensamant, se prezinta astfel: 99,84% romani, 0,16% maghiari.
Agricultura este principala ramura economica a comunei. in structura suprafetelor cultivate, cele mai mari ponderi le detin culturile cerealiere.
Prezenta vaii Somesului si a dealurilor puternic impadurite, fac din comuna Rus un areal atractiv din punct de vedere turistic.
The commune lies in the eastern part of the county, it occupies a 60 square kms territory in the Simisna - Garbou Hills. It consists of three villages: Rus - the central village situated at 72 kms distance from Zalau city, Buzas and Fantanele-Rus.
Rus was first mentioned in documents in 1325, while Buzas was attested in 1554. The date of the attestation of Fantanele-Rus is unknown.
The population of the commune counts, according to the last census, 1220 inhabitants, of which 99,84% are Romanians and 0,16% are Hungarians.
Agriculture is the dominant economical branch of the commune, cereal-growing being the most important activity.
The Somes Valley is the main attractive spectacle of the commune.
