                                Economics and investment opportunities




                      Resources
               Sălaj has a wide range of soil and
               subsoil resources.


               Water  resources  are  represented
               by surface water and groundwater,
               which provide both water supply to
               the  population  and  technological
               water  for  industry  or  agriculture.
               From the perspective of water re-
               sources, the county is divided be-
               tween  Someş-Tisa  Hydrographic
               Basin (88,5 % of the territory) and
               Crişuri Hydrographic Basin
               (11,5 %).

                                          Agricultural land, Sălaj  Natural  raw  material  resources  are  varied  and  in-
                                                                  clude: lignite, brown coal, hydrocarbons, carbonifer-
                                                                  ous  shale, gypsum,  alabaster, diorite (natural stone
                                                                  for  exterior  paving,  aggregates  for  rockfill  and  civil
                                                                  and road construction), gnose, mica, limestone, clay,
                                                                  caolinous  sand,  siliceous  sand,  quartz  sand,  kaolin,
                                                                  volcanic tuff and river aggregates.

                                                                  A significant area of 106 336 ha representing 27,5 %
                                                                  of the total area of the county is occupied by forests,
                                                                  of which over 90 % are deciduous (common beech,
                                                                  common  oak,  seassile,  hornbeam,  hungarian  oak,
                                                                  turkey oak, ash, lime tree, wych elm, sycamore etc.).
                                                                  In addition, in Sălaj County there are 241 112 ha of
                                                                  agricultural land , which represents 62,35 % of its ad-
                                                                                 8
                                                                  ministrative area, most of which are used as arable
                                                                  land (49,76 % of the total), pastures and meadows
                                                                  (47,01 %), vineyards and orchards (3,23 %).


             Sălaj  County  has  a  special  potential   Agricultural land, Sălaj
             for  thermomineral  waters  used  for
             therapeutic  purposes,  especially  bi-
             carbonated  waters  with  tempera-
             tures  between  23  °C  -  42  °C  and
             balneotherapeutic,  sulphate  and
             sulphurous mineral waters. They are
             recovered  partially  and  represents
             great potential for balneary tourism
             development in the county, being in
             the settlements: Bizușa Baths, Jibou,
             Șimleu  Silvaniei,  Bobota,  Boghiş,
             Meseşenii de Sus and Zalnoc .
