Sălaj - landscape, history and
multiculturalism

The tour of Sălaj landscapes and the historical and cultural incur-
sions can start from Barcău Springs and the Tusa-Barcău Nature
Reserve, where for those who love nature, this unique place alone
deserves a one day trip! In a dream setting, about 6 km from Barcău
Springs, is the Trout Farm from Tusa, set in a beautiful mountain
area. Then we can continue with a visit to the Reformed Church in
Valcău de Jos and “Ligia Bodea” Ethnographic Museum in Iaz. We
finish the day with accommodation at Boghiş Baths, a resort with
Barcău Springs, Tusa sulphurous, sodium, bicarbonate, iodate, chlorinated and thermal Reformed Church, Nuşfalău
mineral waters with a temperature of +42°C. The next day we head
to Nuşfalău, where we can visit the Reformed Church and continue
Roman Catholic Church, to Şimleu Silvaniei with a visit to the Holocaust Memorial Museum Báthory Fortress,
Şimleu Silvaniei in Northern Transylvania, the historical monument of the Roman Şimleu Silvaniei
Catholic Church and the Báthory Fortress - a presence of the Re-
naissance architecture in Transylvania. In July, we can spend the rest
of the day at the festival “La Fântâna Dorului”, an international folk-
lore festival that promotes the participation of the artistic groups of
Romanians from diaspora as well as from the country, in order to
present the folk clothing, the traditional song and dance specific to
each community. Surely, the offer can also be complemented by a
tour of Silvania Vineyard, especially of the impressive galleries and
why not, tastings “Silvania” sparkling wines made by the traditional
Champenoise method or the products from Carastelec and Camăr
wine cellars.
