“La Fântâna Dorului” Festival

The International Festival of Folklore “La Fântâna Dorului”
proposes to folk-lovers, each year, performances offered
by the artistic groups of Romanians from diaspora, as well
as from the country, in order to present and promote the
folk clothing, the traditional song and game specific to
each community. “Măsurișul oilor” Festival

It is a field feast occasioned by the sheep being taken to
the pasture and the first milking after weaning lambs. Tran-
sylvanian communities practice grazing in common, each
farmer owning sheep receiving a share of the quantity of
milked milk in a year. The measure is the habit of setting
the quota depending on the collected milk on this day. The
measure is organized on the first or second Sunday of May
on Măgura Priei, the highest peak of the Meseş Mountains.
The “measuring” is a joyous occasion for sheep farmers,
and the event ends with a meal rich in song and dance. The
field feast was first organized in 1967.
