In the Eastern part, about 5 km, there is Pericei locality
with an almost legendary tradition in onion cultivation,
which entered the Yearbook of Records in 2007 for “The
World’s Longest Onion Crown” , and in 2009 for “The big-

gest monument dedicated to Onion”. In September, the
Onion Festival is organized here, a peasant event celebra-
Silvania Vineyard, Şimleu Silvaniei ting the onion, with competitions specific to the Peasant
Olympics.
In the Northwest direction of Şimleu Silvaniei, 4 km away, in
Cehei is found Balta Cehei - a natural reservation of flora and
fauna that covers an area of 7.3 ha. Just 4 km from this, in the
locality of Uileacu Şimleului, there is the historic monument
church built between 1260-1300, in Romanesque style.

In the Southern area, just 9 km away, is Bic Monastery - a beau-
tiful Orthodox monastery dedicated to the “Holy Trinity”, raised
by the endeavor of the Mother Superior Marina, a disciple of
Father Arsenie Boca. In the North-East direction of Şimleu Silvaniei, at about 7
km, in Bădăcin locality there is the memorial house “Iu-
“Holy Trinity” Monastery, Bic liu Maniu”, one of the most prestigious political figures in
Romania’s history, actively involved in the fruition of the
Great Union on 1 December 1918, a moment of reference
in the build-up of the modern Romanian state.
