Top 10 tourist attractions Traditional House from Buciumi
In the Eastern part of the county, approximately 25 km away
from Zalău, an ethnographic area openes which contri-
butes through its authenticity to the creation of an original
tourist experience offer by the county. Thus, on the Agrij
Valley there are historical remains represented by the Ro-
man Castrum in Buciumi - built in 114 as a fortified point
of the defence system of Roman Dacia, being the seat of
Augusta Brittonum II Cohorta and fulfilling especially the
role of defence for the city of Porolissum - with the wealth
of traditions gathered at the Buciumi History and Ethno-
graphy Museum. It contains a multitude of heritage pieces
from the locals’ houses and preserved by the el-
ders of the village, as well as vestiges discovered
5 during excavations in the Roman Castrum area.
The Traditional House from Buciumi - built
between 1928-1929, by Simion, the grandfather of
the “buciuman” Ioan Ştirb, made of hornbeam glued
with earth, is a typical Transylvanian house with a cel-
lar in which apple, potatoes and pickled “curechi” - as
Transylvanian cabbage is called - were kept, with vesti-
bule, veranda, two rooms and a ceiling made of beams.
The house does not lack icons, the chest, an old dowry
box, but also ornaments, especially the bowls hanging
on the walls, thus the objective completing the tradi-
tional cultural heritage of the area.
